Sanctioning & Rider Eligibility

  • All riders must hold a current AMA membership.
  • Riders must compete in the appropriate class for their skill level.
  • All motorcycles must pass technical inspection before racing.
  • Race officials may re-inspect any motorcycle at any time.

Motorcycle Safety Requirements

  • Motorcycles must be mechanically sound and race-ready.
  • A working kill switch is required.
  • Throttle must return freely to the closed position.
  • Handlebar ends must be securely plugged.
  • A functional chain guard is required.
  • Front and rear brakes must operate properly.
  • No fluid leaks permitted.

Tires & Ice Screw Regulations

  • Only screw-type ice traction devices are permitted.
  • Carbide-tipped studs are not allowed.
  • All screws must be steel.
  • Screws must be securely installed and maintained.
  • Screw heads may not exceed AMA-specified height limits.
  • No sharpened, welded, brazed, or modified screw heads.
  • Unsafe or damaged tires may fail tech inspection.

Prohibited Equipment

  • Ice speedway spikes or long bolt-style studs.
  • Welded, brazed, or homemade traction devices.
  • Sharp projections or exposed hazards.

Wheel Guards & Rider Protection

  • A rear wheel guard is required to cover exposed screws.
  • Rear guards must be securely mounted and effective.
  • Front fork guards are required.
  • Spoke covers are recommended.

Class Structure

  • Classes may include studded tire classes, screw tire classes, and youth divisions.
  • Riders may only enter classes for which their motorcycle is legal.
  • Event-specific supplemental rules may apply.

Technical Inspection & Enforcement

  • Final authority rests with race officials.
  • Any unsafe condition may result in disqualification.
  • Ignorance of the rules is not a defense.

Promoter Supplemental Rules

Event organizers may issue supplemental rules that further define classes, restrict screw specifications, or add safety requirements. Supplemental rules may not reduce safety standards set by the AMA.
